This is exceedingly well presented. I enjoyed all of the juicy animated transitions, the pixel art + fonts and the music got stuck in my head haha. Thanks for the fun game.

Wow this is really high praise, thank you so much.
Haha ChatGPT helped with the text description on the game page. Not part of the gameplay but still an important part of our submission!

Hi MaxwellDev, we've released an update that hopefully addresses the pain you had with collisions. If you get a chance please let us know what you think :)

Hi Clapmonster, while we haven't quite reached an easy mode, we have released an update that's reduced the difficulty by making collisions more forgiving so that it's accessible to a wider audience. If you have a chance please give it a go and we hope you enjoy!

Hi nasroDev, we've heard the feedback and released an update with a more forgiving collision detection. If you have the time please let us know what you think :)

Hi thanks for the kind words. Adjusting the collisions is right at the top of our list, it’s been an important lesson this time to include some positive margin between the collider and graphics. Much appreciated and glad you enjoyed!

Hi there,  you’re not the first to mention that the goals weren’t clear and I’m glad the description helped. I’m a fan of games that can communicate goals through gameplay and this is helpful feedback on that journey. We’re aiming to address the difficulty level as well and will reach out once we have in case you feel like giving it another go. Thanks a bunch for playing and commenting!

Big fan of the art style and decision to use the TIC-80, it's inspired me to give it a try myself. Thanks for the short challenge!

Level 5, wave 3 is so punishing! I'll have to try again tomorrow. Thanks for the challenging game and I echo a lot of the positive feedback that the others have shared. Great variety of enemies, I especially enjoyed being able to use the exploding enemies against the others.

Short and very sweet! Really great use of the limitation and a clever concept that really earns a puzzle - platformer description. I like several decisions that were made, including the relaxing soundscape and especially that the character is left behind when their background moves away so they always need to travel on foot to the goal. This is a great entry for this jam, nice job.

Hi there, thanks for playing! You’re right, we used an input value that has smoothing applied so there’s a “weighty” feel to the gears. Must admit we didn’t try without the smoothing, so thanks for pointing it out and we’ll take it on board for future :)

We had tried mouse dragging controls but didn’t think to try click-to-drag. Definitely agree about mouse offering precision and in hindsight adding a click would have taken the pressure off every little mouse movement. Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting twist to have pulling as a mechanic instead of pushing and so many levels to demonstrate it. Great puzzle game, I'm still working my way through it.

Awesome art and I like how the menu system and hints work. Great execution for this simple concept :)

I'm impressed by the polish and pleased with the use of limitation as well as theme. Great work!

Much appreciated :)

I was thinking along these same lines at the start. I may end up doing some of that, thanks for the encouragement!

Thank you!

That was a fun game! One of the ideas we tossed around was a timed maze but you improved on that by elegantly adding the buffs and debuffs to highlight the limitation. Great music and art as well. I didn't notice the resource bug in my first playthrough so I'll look for it now.

Haha my collaborator mentioned later we could have tried lowering the crash sound effect volume. I'll definitely add hints and possibly even some more levels and mechanics once the jam is done. Thanks for the feedback!

I appreciate the praise for the mechanic, I tend to spend a long time agonising over that decision so I'm glad it paid off this time. Thanks for the feedback!

At first I didn't notice there was a double jump and went back to try again once I read these comments. I enjoyed the short narrative and the platforming challenge. Nice work!

I made it to the top! The platforming was challenging due to both the precision needed, and also with knowing where the platforms were as they seemed to be somewhat hidden in the environment. Unravel is a game that does this quite well and I think it comes down to contrast. A fun challenge, thanks for submitting

I had that same thought and reasoning during development but didn't end up testing it. I agree it's worth a try, especially as the puzzles grow in size and new mechanics are introduced. Thanks for the feedback :)

That was intense! Thanks for the rush.
An elegant and logical way to use the limitation and I bet there's other great decisions that I didn't notice just because of the pace.

Thanks a bunch! I'm glad you made it :)

I've never played a PICO-8 game before, this is inspiring. Well done, thanks for the dungeon frog hunt and I enjoyed the classic aesthetic!

It took me a few tries but I finally beat it as a 10-year old! I was hoping to finish it as a baby haha.  Great replay value and I like that the ageing mechanic doubles as an accessibility feature to lower the difficulty. Nice work!

This was quite the journey. Great work combining so many styles. I did get a bit of a headache in that brick maze level but maybe that's to your credit since the old screensavers did the same thing to me :) I enjoyed the "pam pam pam pam.... " XD

I enjoyed collecting all 10 of those water droplets more than I expected I would. Sounds like a good start for the music, I recommend to make the loop a bit longer and add some more variation so that it's less noticeable when it restarts. Thanks for the platforming challenge :)

The 'X' buttons on those windows are such a tease, if only it were that easy. You need a bigger brain than mine to balance a game like this well, good job for taking on that challenge.

Very nice, there's so much potential here. I'd play a longer version for sure. Especially one that teaches me how I accidentally solved that last level!

I tried for a long time to fix that bug but I had no clue what was causing it since all of Unity would crash. I suspected it was some sort of infinite loop in the reflecting raycast but even when I set a max-depth for reflections it was still crashing. I'm glad you still enjoyed it though, thanks for playing :)

Thanks for the feedback :)
The magnifying glass and the mirror are 2 controls that I wanted to improve but ran out of time. In hindsight I think the mirror could have been better if I made a dead-zone towards the centre of rotation so that the movement is always somewhat precise. Something to keep in mind for next time.

I agree, I struggled for ideas this time but persevered nonetheless. Thanks for playing :)

(1 edit)

This idea is fantastic and I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles. I got stuck and haven't finished it yet but I'll be sure to come back after playing some others. Great work, I look forward to seeing what else you've done and I genuinely aspire to  make something this good in future.

I love a simple puzzle that isn't obvious. I had a fun amount of struggle with a couple of those levels. Nicely polished, I enjoyed the level transitions and the physics animation in the background. I struggled to see the difference between moveable and fixed windows, but maybe that's beneficial to making the solution less obvious. Thanks for the puzzle!

This is an excellent use of the limitation. Great simple idea and executed very nicely. If this was taken further with time I imagine there might be different windows that can/can't overlap, or different obstacles to reach the location. Well done!

Oh and I'm also learning how to scale UI and game assets properly for different resolutions, I haven't quite worked it out yet!

The audio is excellent, I didn't realise it at first but it wasn't audible on Safari and luckily when I saw REAPER mentioned in your software list I tried again on Chrome.

Based on that, my first (silent) play-through I was slightly confused why the souls stopped following me but then that became obvious when I could hear the sound effect when it happened. A visual indicator might make that even clearer but sound on also helps haha.

I like that the player quickly lands back on the ground after a jump, it feels like there was some care put into the player controller. I found myself getting caught against the side of the platforms, for future projects I believe you can fix that using a PhysicMaterial2D with friction=0 (Brackeys gives a good explanation here).

The lighting effects are well done, I tried some of those for the first time this game jam. Overall nice job!
